IEA and Mexico Host Energy Efficiency Policy Training Week

Friday, April 17, 2026

The International Energy Agency is convening its Latin America and the Caribbean Energy Efficiency Policy Training Week in Mexico City, bringing together more than 200 policymakers and practitioners from 24 countries to exchange experience on advancing energy efficiency policies and programmes.

The event, co-hosted by Mexico’s Secretariat of Energy (SENER) with support from the Partnership for Energy Efficiency in Buildings (PEEB) Cool Programme, focuses on the role of energy efficiency in managing rising energy demand while supporting economic development and expanding access to modern energy services. “Mexico is pleased to host this Training Week and to contribute to regional cooperation on energy efficiency,” said Luz Elena González, Secretary of Energy of Mexico. “The exchange of experience and knowledge will support the development of effective policies and programmes across the region.”

“This Training Week comes at a time when the world is facing major energy supply disruptions. Energy efficiency is the one response that all countries have at their disposal to support energy users and build resilience for the future.” said Brian Motherway, Head of the IEA’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Inclusive Transitions. “The Training Week provides an opportunity for policymakers to share experience and identify practical approaches to advancing energy efficiency and energy transitions.”

This is the 23rd Energy Efficiency Policy Training Week organised by the IEA and the first to be held in Mexico.
